The purpose of this website is to tell interesting Chinese stories using a map in nine different subject areas: country, people, history, culture, heritage, diversity, natural heritage, modernization, and future. The Introduction Page and the Welcome Page talk about the motivation of the website. The rest of the website is organized like a museum. It is divided into exhibitions and galleries. Exhibitions show the descriptions and maps, while the galleries hold the pictures. We want to keep the description brief so that the audience can spend time on the maps and the pictures. We encourage the audience to research on his/her own if he/she is interested in the story. The audience can navigate the exhibition or gallery using the top menu tab, and then follow the dropdown into the subject areas and stories.
Once in a story, the audience can read description and map. The map shows icons of different landmarks related to the story. One can click on the icon to show the pop-up side bar and read more about the landmark. There are also links in the sidebar pointing to the related web page and gallery.
Each story normally has a separate gallery holding the pictures of the story. Once can take the slide mode to see the scrolling pictures or take the picture mode to see individual one.
Furthermore, there is a blog section. Audiences are welcome to stop by and leave comments on the story that you have read. If you encounter any problems and need help, you can visit the blog pages on “Q&A” and “Known Problems”. Last but not least, you can leave any comments or suggestions to this blog page.
